½ cup white sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
14 candied cherries, halved, or more as needed

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.

  2. Beat butter and sugar together in a large bowl until creamy and smooth, scoop by teaspoonful onto the prepared baking sheet. Make an indentation in the center of each portion and insert a cherry half.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until cookies are light brown, about 12 minutes.

A family favorite created by my grandmother, these delicious cookies where changed from 'Christmas cookies' to 'punch bowl' because of the likeness of the cherry to punch in a bowl.
